Storyboard Text

  • ~The Story of an Hour~ --Storyboard by Ben Clay
  • "Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband’s death."
  • "[The Sister's] husband’s friend Richards was there, too, near her. It was he who had been in the newspaper office when intelligence of the railroad disaster was received, with Brently Mallard’s name leading the list of 'killed.'"
  • Free, Free, Free!
  • "Some one was opening the front door with a latchkey. It was Brently Mallard who entered....He had been far from the scene of accident, and did not even know there had been one."
  • "When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease—of joy that kills."
  • Frame Descriptions
  • When her husband arrives at home, alive and well, she suffers a heart attack upon realizing that her current lifestyle will continue.
  • The doctors confirm her heart was responsible; however, they conclude the shock that lead to her cardiac arrest resulted from joy.
  • It is revealed that the main character Mrs. Mallard must be informed of a rail car accident in which her husband allegedly perished. However, she suffers from heart trouble.
  • Her sister informs her of this news, and Mrs. Mallard retires to her room with the intention of dealing with her emotions.
  • After sitting for a long time she realizes that she is not feeling grief, but rather a foreign felling of freedom. It seems the presence of her husband left a burden on her life that she was not aware of untill this moment.
