  • Internal Characterization
  • Scrooge kept the coalbox in his own room; and so surely as the clerk came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part.
  • Indirect Charaterization
  • I wish to be left alone, sir! That is what I wish! I don't make myself merry at Christmas and I cannot afford to make idle people merry.
  • Internal Conflict
  • I should like to be able to say a few words to my clerk right now, that's all.
  • This states that Scrooge is selfish, cheap, and unfair because he only has one coalbox that heats the house and he keeps it in his room causing his clerk to be cold during the night.
  • Symbolism
  • I am the Ghost of Christmas Past.
  • Scrooge realized that he should of married Belle. He didn't regret it at first but the more time he thought about it he regretted it.
  • Symbolism
  • I wear the chain I forged in life.
  • Scrooge feels regret for his actions and he realized that he was treating his clerk unfairly and he feels sorry for him.
  • Theme
  • The Ghost of Christmas Past has a glowing light coming from the top of his head, which symbolizes the light that leads Scrooge through his past and lead him toward a good person.
  • Marleys chains symbolize all the bad things that happened in his life and it makes Scrooge think that he shouldn't end up like him even though Scrooge has been worse then him.
  • You should spend your money and have a good life.
  • I wish to be left alone, sir! That is what I wish! I don't make myself merry at Christmas and I cannot afford to make idle people merry.
