Storyboard Description

In an overpopulated society, population control and food distribution are constant issues. People cram into tenement-size apartments. When older members of society get too old, they mysteriously disappear. These people are euthanized and used to make more food to supply the population. Adrian grew up in this world and sees nothing wrong with his occupation. The widening gap between rich and poor forces most people to rely on this government-supplied food, while the very rich of society can afford real food. Adrian is saddened by the sudden disappearance of his father. Despite his grief, he reports to work as usual. While laboring he notices his father’s prized ring mixed into the food-making material. Adrian knew what this meant: his father was now dead. He starts to sob heavily. This, combined with his grief, convinces Adrian that the food-making process that he has been accustomed to was inhumane and wrong. Adrian decides to get to the bottom of the situation. He reports to work, but sneaks into a mysterious area marked “AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY” and witnesses firsthand the inhumane decimation of his fellow humans. Adrian is appalled by what he sees and is inspired to pursue a career in food science and genetic engineering of food, with the eventual goal of producing food in a lab instead of euthanizing fellow human beings. He works in secrecy in his hidden laboratory for many months, making sure to evade any attention from the government. After many months of research, Adrian discovers how to make an unlimited supply of food. However, he lacks the funds needed for mass production of his invention. He would need government support to have the capacity to make enough food. Adrian daringly presents his products to government officials with a promise of increased efficiency over cannibalism. The government accepts Adrian’s proposal and his food is put into use. Inhumane cannibalism is abolished and all humans can safely have enough to eat without fearing for their lives.
