Situation/Exposition: Mme Loisel was born into a family of clerks in the middle class. However, she feels like she should be in the upper class but can't move up because her family can't afford a dowry.
I am very sad!
Complication: Mme Loisel is invited to an evening reception, but she says she can't go because she doesn't have an evening dress.
Conflict: Mme Loisel realizes that she can't go to the reception because she doesn't have expensive jewelry to accompany her dress.
Development: Mme Loisel goes to the reception and she is the prettiest one and every man wants to meet her. She is very happy and dances wildly throughout the night. Mme Loisel was proud of her success.
Climax: Mme Loisel goes home and soon discovers that she no longer has Mme Forestier's necklace and later realizes that she must buy a new necklace to replace the missing one.
Outcome/Resolution: Ten years past and Mme Loisel and her husband pay off the necklace debt. One day Mme Loisel finds Mme Forestier and tells her that she lost the original necklace and she bought a new one to replace it. Mme Forestier tells Mme Loisel that the necklace she had was made of paste which meant it was only worth five hundred francs while Mme Loisel and her husband paid over thirty thousand francs.
