In 1839 I was sent to court for not paying outstanding debts.
I was sentenced to life as a convict and was transported by ship to Tasmania.
Conditions on the ship were rough. We slept below deck behind prison bars on hammocks.
We were allowed to exercise on deck once a day.
After many months of sailing we finally arrived in Tasmania.
Life here is not what I expected. The climate is a lot hotter and drier. The conditions are harsh. The guards are very cruel to us. I wish I was back home in England.
