  • The Declaration of Independence was created because Americans no longer wanted to be under British ruling. Another reason is that we believe all men are created equal. It also worked in convincing skeptical colonists to join them and leave Great Britain. 
  • When?
  • Thomas Jefferson was the main writer of the Declaration of Independence. Others that worked on it were John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston. 
  • Where?
  • Why?
  • The Declaration of Independence was written to tell King George lll and the rest of the world why the Colonies were separating from Great Britain. Also to convince some Colonists that they should stay with what now is America.  The colonists believed they were being overtaxed and taken advantage of. 
  • The Declaration of Independence was adopted into use on July 4th, 1776. ( Thus the 4th of July). However, it was actually signed on August 2nd, 1776. 
  • Declaration of Independence.
  • The Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was signed in Independence Hall.
