  • The narrator lives with an elderly man who has a "vulture eye." The narrator loves the old man and wishes him no harm. He attempts to convince the reader of his sanity.
  • Climax
  • The narrator, terrified and haunted by the old man's malformed eye, conceives a plot to rid himself of that damned eye. He had to kill to they old man.
  • Falling Action
  • KNOCK KNOCK!!
  • The narrator studies the man's sleeping habits by subtly inquiring about his sleep and stalking him while he sleeps. He watches the man to see if the evil eye will reveal itself.
  • Resolution
  • After studying the old man every midnight for eight nights he wakes the old man and the narrator sees the vulture eye. He leaps into the room and smothers the man with his heavy mattress.
  • AAAHHHH!
  • He dismembers the corpse and hides the bloody remains under the floorboards. After concealment, three policemen arrive to investigate after a scream was heard by a neighbor.
  • The narrator is casual to the visitors until he thinks he hears the old man's dead heart beating. Driven insane by the monotone of the thundering heart, he tears up the floorboards and reveals the corpse to the police.
