However, this new city was ruled by a despotic monarch in the year 509 BC. Eventually, the people got fed up with this idiot, and were like, lets throw a revolution!

In the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar became a very powerful general and created the first triumvirate. Crassus died in battle, and the alliance broke apart in civil war between Pompey and Caesar. Caesar won, and was crowned dictator.
Death! Rage! Fury!
In 44 BC Caesar was assassinated by the Senate. The resulting war tore apart the empire, but Octavian, Caesars adopted son, won. From that moment on, Rome was ruled by Emperors.
Finally, many barbarian and eastern invasions later, the last hint of roman civilization, the Principality of Theodoro, fell in 1475.
