France was composed of three different estates. The First and Second Estates lived in luxury and were wealthy. The Third Estate were the majority of the population and were given no rights.
The First and Second Estates locked the Third Estate out of the Parliament building. The Third Estate resorted to meeting on a tennis court. This was called the tennis court oath.
Bastille was a prison in France that showed the upper classes had authority. The underclass people did not like this so they invaded Bastille and freed the 7 prisoners. This was called the Storming of Bastille.
A guillotine was considered a humane way of execution. This was how many people were executed during the Reign of Terror.
After Napoleon gains political power, he becomes ruler by coup d'etat. . When he is getting crowned, he takes the crown out of the Pope's hands and crowned himself. This shows he had power. Napoleon helped reform much of France and even made his own laws called the Napoleonic Code.
Napoleon was exiled twice to two different islands. The first time he was exiled to the island of Elba. He found a way to gain power of France again for a hundred days and exiled to the island of Saint Helena.
