My town is located near a river. We are by a river because it is easy to trade that way. Our town also has a charter, which gives citizens the right to govern themselves, make laws, and raise taxes.
Since I am a nurse, I belong to a guild. A guild is an association of people that practices the same craft or trade. The benefit of being in a guild is that the guild gives you money for you family to eat if you get hurt.
This is the marketplace where I buy all of my goods that I need. The people that work here are called merchants. Their goods attracted people from other cities to come here. Also, did you know that Jews were victims of violence, and rulers took their property at will.
Since I work at a hospital, I have to treat people sick with common diseases such as scarlet fever and measles. Also, we bleed our patients, and put leeches on their skin to help cure them. Another thing is, we do't wash our hands!
I have the bubonic plague. That is why there is a bunch black swells on my face!
This is my home. It is very cold, smoky, dim, small, crowded, and made out of wood. Also, it is only one large room with only a fireplace to keep us warm. Half of the children have have died! My wife has to teach our three daughters household chores, cooking, and taking care of children. so they can do them when they get married as early as age twelve. My sons, however, will start work as early as seven.
My neighbor broke a law, so now she has to pay a fine. Luckily, she does not have to do a trial by combat or ordeal, or worse, get burned at the stake or executed! Speaking of breaking laws, here are a lot of thieves in the marketplace. One good thing is that our town is starting to use court inquiries to decide a person's guilt.
