In the year of 1999, he set an Ohio state record with 4,041 yards thrown and 54 touchdowns thrown. He also won Best offensive player of the year for the state of Ohio, runner-up for the Mr. Football award, league district, and Toledo Blade player of the year
In Basketball, Ben was point-guard and scored an average of 26.5 points a game. In baseball, Ben was a .300 hitter and played shortstop for Finlay. He was team captain in all three sports.
Bens talent wasn't unnoticed by Miami University in Ohio. He was offered an invitation to a summer camp there. His performance was amazing, but they didn't give him a scholarship. The coach wanted to see him play a game before offering a scholarship. When Roethlisberger played he threw six touchdowns winning himself a scholarship to MU.
In the year 2000, Roethlisberger put on a red jersey. It wasn't until 2001, he won the starting job. He had a solid 1st and 2nd season. During his sophomore year, he stated ",started to feel comfortable with the way things were going in the offensive system and everything that was unfolding at Miami."
In the year 2003, Roethlisberger returned to Oxford to see his college jersey retired making himself the first person from MU to have his jersey retired in 34 years. Ben would leave the school having set 21 school records
