An example of Connotation and Denotation.

Storyboard Text

  • My friend the other day told me I was a chicken because I was afraid to play his scary game.
  • No silly! There is another meaning to the word. It means to be afraid. Its a negative connotation!
  • What is a connotation?
  • It is what you think of when you hear a word. Like how you thought about an actual chicken. Denotative is the dictionary definition
  • Oh, now I get it! Like how people have different thoughts when they hear the word, so that word is associated with that thought. But the dictionary might not say that meaning.
