  • The year of 1876 and Edward Johnson created his new business.
  • In 1874, Nicholas Sheran made the first coal mining dig. 2 years later Mr. Edwards created a coal mining industry as coal was discovered in the area.
  • Indeed, I am looking forward to working with you.
  • Our coal mining business will be great. It shall be called the Alberta Mining Industries.
  • Johnson and his business partner, Jim, are talking and setting things up.
  • The industry is about to be started and and they are talking over all the details like the prices based on what Mr. Nicholas Sheran used. He charged $25 per tonne 2 years ago so they are raising it by $2.
  • Mr, Johnson, how much shall we sell the coal for?
  • Lethbridge is very good for coal. I was thinking maybe around $27 per tonne.
  • The coal mining is about to begin. Mining starts tomorrow.
  • Yes, tomorrow you and the men will bring the gear. I will have other affairs to tend to.
  • This is where we will be starting?
  • Mining has begun.
  • Here we are boys. Let's make some coin!!!
  • 7 Years Later.
  • The business is doing very well. Last year The North Western Coal and Navigation Company established the first large-scale operation and I believe we can do the same.
  • I agree, we are doing well and can be doing better.
  • They move to Tofield, Alberta to begin the massive operation.
  • Mr. Edwards and his small crew moved to Tofield because the North Western Coal and Navigation Company took great control over Lethbridge and profit would be great in Tofield. The Alberta Mining Industries became massive and Mr. Edwards became a very wealthy man.
  • The End!!!
  • The men begin mining in Lethbridge. However it is very difficult work to work in the mines as it was really hard labor. Many men died mining by things like explosions and other tragic deaths.
