Can you explain what liquefaction is?
For Liquefaction to happen we need three ingredients. Loosely packed soils, saturated soils and shaking.
What do these ingredients do?
The first thing that happens is water usually trapped between particles is release by the movement of seismic waves.
So the water is trapped in the loosely packed soil?
When the particles move apart from the shaking the water being under pressure moves into all the spaces making the soil act like a liquid.
