On the 7th of October, 1897, Robert Poole (Elijah Muhammad) was born in Sandersville, Georgia, to William and Mariah Poole.
Robert (Elijah) met Wallace Fard Muhammad in 1931. Robert (Elijah) saw him as his mentor and converted to a Muslim soon after. At the time, the Black Muslims believed that it was the Blacks who were superior. It was WF Muhammad that gave Robert the name "Elijah Muhammad".
Poole is not the name of your ancestors. It was the name the devil slave owners gave to your ancestors.
Elijah Muhammad became the leader of the Nation of Islam in 1934. He encouraged his followers to look after one another and to have as little contact to whites as possible. He also didn't alow smoking, drnking and womansisng amongst his followers
In 1952, Malcolm Little met Elijah Muhammad in Chicago. He saw Elijah as his mentor and is converted to the Nation of Islam. Before this, Malcolm was a drug addict, pimp and pusher. It is Elijah who gives Malcolm the last name "X" to represent his unknown African American name.
Malcolm X became Elijah Muhammad's national spokesman. He was then suspended from the Nation of Islam in 1963 due to his controversial speech about the Kennedy assassination. He made his own movement called the Muslim Mosque.
The Black Muslim Movement and Malcolm X mainly influenced the younger generation of African American's due to the ghetto lives and discrimination towards them . They wanted more equality in their lives. Malcolm X challenged the white supremacy which appealed to the younger generation.
