Giving Feedback and Praise During a Reading Lesson
I am reading short "e" CVC booklets one on one with one of my kindergarten students while the rest of the class is reading silently on their own. I am assessing if the students know how to open the book and turn the pages, can finger track the words with their fingers, can recognize site words, and if they can readily sound out the CVC words.
Hello Cici, Can you open the book to the first page and put your finger on the first word?
Yes, I can.
Great job! I like how you immediately put your finger on the first word and turned to the first page. Please read the sentence.
Peg is a red hen.
Very good. I like how you pointed to the words with your fingers and sounded out the words correctly. I also see you remembered the site words. Please turn to the next page and read the sentence.
