Storyboard Text

  • Miss Kinnian
  • I believe Miss Kinnian is a dynamic character from what I found in the text. I think she is dynamic because in the beginning of the story she did not have any affection for Charlie, fore she thought of him as a friend. As you get farther in the story you start to see that Miss Kinnian develops some feelings for Charlie and proves it by going to dinner at his house with him.  Some traits of Miss Kinnian are patient because she had to teach and work with Charlie who was mentally disabled, and that takes a lot of patience. Another trait would be warmhearted because when Charlie was going through tough times being sick and not being able to pay his rent, Miss Kinnian cried for him and payed his rent for him. A final trait would be ambitious because she was determined to make Charlie smart by teaching him. Charlie had a liking for Miss Kinnian and therefore he felt great about her and had feelings for her until the end of the story when he kicked her out of his house.

  • Charlie
  • I believe that Charlie is a dynamic character. I think that he is a dynamic character because in the beginning of the story he was very unintelligent but throughout it he became smarter until he was very smart. But at the end of the story Charlies intelligence wore off and he became mentally challenged once again.  Some traits of Charlie would be determined because throughout the whole story he never gave up on trying to be intelligent. Another trait would be hopeful because he was hopeful that he would overcome his mental illness and become smart. Finally another trait would be intrigued because he was very curious on how he would overcome certain challenges like beating Algernon or solving problems with Miss Kinnian. Charlie had mixed feelings on himself. He was confident that he was going to overcome his illness but he also was worried that he'd mess things up throughout the story with Miss Kinnian and his job.
  • Dr. Nemur
  • I think that Dr. Nemur is a static character fore throughout the whole story he stays arrogant and career obsessed.  Some traits of Dr. Nemur would be self-important because he stays self minded throughout the story with his work and wife's thoughts about him. Another trait would be focused because in his job he has one task, to help and work on Charlie and he needs to be very focused for that type of job. A final trait would be smart because he does his job very well and has to work on mental health problems which is a very intelligent topic. Charlie felt that Dr. Nemur was a grump and that he was too focused on his job. He thought that he needed to focus more on his patients than being grumpy.
  • "You've got to be a little patient. You're accomplishing in days and weeks what it takes normal people to accomplish in half a lifetime. That's what makes it so amazing" (Keyes 233)
  • Mr. Donnegan
  • I think Mr. Donnegan is a static character because throughout the story he stayed hard working and smart. Some traits of Mr. Donnegan would be good-natured because throughout the story he let Charlie work at his factory even though he had a mental disability. Another trait would intelligent because Mr. Donnegan owns a whole business and it takes wit to do that. A final trait would be easy going because when Charlie quit his job at the factory he didn't really try to stop him Mr. Donnegan just let him go. I believe that Charlie felt good about Mr. Donnegan throughout the story except for when he was mad at everyone at the factory for treating him poorly. I think Charlie felt good because Mr. Donnegan always treated him with respect even though he had a mental disability.
  • "When I become intelligent like Dr. Strauss says, with three times my I.Q. of 68, then maybe I'll be like everyone else and people will like me and be friendly" (Keyes 231)
  •  Frank Reilly
  •     I believe that Frank Reilly is a dynamic character. I believe this because in the beginning of the story he was a bully and he made fun of Charlie with his friends. But towards the end of the story Frank stood up for Charlie instead of being a bully when a guy from work was making fun of him.  Some traits of Frank would be enjoyable because after work he went out to drink a lot with his friends and had fun with them. Another trait would be protective because towards the end of the story Frank stood up for Charlie at the factory when he was being bullied. A final trait of Frank would be humorous because whenever he went out to drink with his friends after work he would make them laugh with jokes. I think that Charlie had different feelings about Frank throughout the book. At the beginning of the book Charlie felt good about Frank because he thought Frank was his friend. Further in the story when Charlie became more intelligent he found out that Frank wasn't really his friend but he was making fun of him so his feelings changed about Frank. But at the end of the story Frank stood up for Charlie so Charlie gained respect for him.
  • I believe that Joe Carp is a dynamic character because in the beginning of the story him and Frank bullied Charlie and were mean to him But towards the end of the story Joe stood up for Charlie when people from the factory were making fun of him. Some traits of Joe would be aggressive because towards the end of the story he said to Charlie that if anyone ever tried to take advantage of him that him and Frank would set em straight. Another trait would be brave because Joe had the guts to stand up for Charlie in the end of the story at the factory when people were making fun of Charlie. A final trait would be amusing because Joe made a lot of jokes when he went out to drink after work and while he was working and people generally liked him in the story. Charlie felt good about Joe in the end of the story because he stood up for him but before that he felt different about him. In the beginning of the story Joe made fun of Charlie but Charlie couldn't tell so he felt good about him. Later in the story when Charlie became more intelligent he found out that Joe wasn't really his friend.
  • "Alright, we will use Charlie" (Keyes 225)
  • Joe Carp
  • "He was the best janitor I ever had because he likes his job and does it good and never comes late or misses a day except for his operation" (Keyes 230)
  • "Charlie if anybody bothers you or try's to take advantage of you call me or Joe and well set em straight" (Keyes 243)
  • "Leave him alone you lousy cracker or I'll break your neck" (Keyes 243)
