This the house of Daniel Shays who played a crucial part in our government. His rebellion lead to the abolishment of the articles of confederation and lead to the creating of the constitution. That's Daniel Shays over there
Shays joined the war because he needed money for his future family. When the government paid him the money he was paid in was inflating so it was much less then he should have gotten.
Shays gained a following of farmers from Massachusetts. Together they went around Massachusetts and closed many courts that imprisoned debter
Daniel Shays was an officer of the continental army and fought in many of the brutalist battles of the revolutionary war including Bunker Hill, Lexington,Ticonderoga, Saratoga and he even won an award for doing a superior job.
Ben Lincoln started a standing army to fight against their rebellion. He intercepted a note Shays made to part of their rebellion about an attack. On January 25th, 1787 the fought between the rebels and Lincoln's militia.
After the war was over, America created a new currency that wasn't worth as much as the British currency, but the pay wasn't worth as much even though it was the same amount they promised.
The farmers earned more money during the revolutionary war because less people were able to make their food, but when the war ended they were left broke because everyone could now feed themselves. Together they closed down courts because they were the ones foreclosing their properties and sending debters to prison.
Shays Rebellion displayed how weak the federal government was. People knew that there needed to be a balance between democracy and tyranny. The states and the government now shared the power to keep peace, order, and natural right.
Shays wanted to capture the armory and then destroy all of Boston. Ben Lincoln was able to predict their attack from the note. The federal government couldn't help because they could not involve themselves in state matters and were broke.
Knox's letter telling him if he succeeds he will be the founding father and if the rebellion succeeds his reputation will be diminished finally convinced him to lend a hand.
Washington refused to come out of retirement to help resolve the issue. Henry Knox sent him many letters to convince him to and finally it worked when Knox said that his reputation was on the line.
Shays' rebellion's legacy is still known today because without it our government wouldn't be able to work properly. Because of it the basis of our current government was created.
