Oliver Hazard Perry was the commander of 9 ships that attacked the British. This battle also made the British abandon Detroit.
  • In late 1814, the British attacked Chesapeake bay and burned down Washington D.C., along with the original White House. The British also planned to attack New Orleans. Andrew Jackson collected the inexperienced men to fight, such as pirates and free black men. They took over 3,000 casualties of the British and lost only 13 men.
  • The heroism of Jackson, Perry, and others increased American patriotism and nationalism. The native Americans also weakened because they had no weapons supplied by the British anymore. Lastly, The American industry boomed because we couldn't trade with the British anymore and we made more goods in America.
