  • Exposition: Characters- Whitney and Rainsford, General Zaroff and Ivan. Mood- Gloomy, mysterious, and unwelcoming Setting- In the Carribean (on a jot),night time, in Zaroff's palace, day time, and in the woods.
  • Conflict:
  • " No General, I will not hunt" (Connell 78).
  • "Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of the best dogs. Again you score" (Connell 78).
  • "Your brain against mine. Outdoor chess! And the sake is not without value, eh?" (Connell 74)
  • Rising Action:
  • "He caught hold of a stringy young sapling, and to it he fastened his haunting knife, with the blade pointing down the trail" (Connell 79).
