  • Green light
  • Overlooking Eyes
  • Ominous Weather
  • The Green light across for Gatsby symbolized hope in that one day him and Daisy would live together in love and peace. The light mostly motivated him to keep pursuing his dream everynight and would show everyday that the hope pertained.
  • Valley of Ashes
  • The Overlooking eyes in the Great Gatsby symbolize Gatsby's past always viewing him in his present. The eyes would never leave just like Gatsby's past. Gatsby's past is always inferred throughout the book to be dark and illegal possibly including murdering a person.
  • East vs. West
  • The Ominous weather shows the awkward atmosphere & situation Gatsby & Daisy found themselves in most of the time. Most of the time they were uncomfortable and awkward due to their personal situations especially due to Daisy's being married.
  • The Valley of Ashes portrays mystery and waste of the world. It is shown throughout the story that it has some beautiful aspects about itself but is misused as a wasteland.
  • The East vs. West egg situation is very clear and straight forward. It was a way to segregate people by social classes in the book and showing you can never make it out of your egg due to the East always being rich and the west not as much.
