Odysseus' ship is pushed to shore by circe
"But now a breeze came up for us astern- a canvas-bellying landbreeze, hale shipmate sent by the singing nymph sunbright hair"
"We made the land, put ram and ewe ashore, and took our way along the Ocean stream to find the place foretold us by Circe."
They land and find the place Circe told them to go to.
Odysseus pours the libations into the pit and sacrificed he animals to satisfy the underworld gods.
"There Perimedes and Eulylochus pinioned the scared beasts. With my drawn blade I spaded up the votive pit, and poured libations round it to the unnumbered dead."
Odysseus and his men find Elpinor dead on the floor and they ask him if he needs help.
"One shade came first- Elpenor, of our company, who lay unburied still on the wide earth as we had left him- dead in Circes hall, untouched, unmourned, when other cares compelled us.
When odysseus and his men find elpinore he is on the floor with a broken neck so they ask him how it happened then he explains.
" 'son of great Laertes, Odysseus, master mariner and soldier, bad luck shadowed me, and no kindly power; ignoble death I drank with so much wine. I slept on circes roof and could not see the ladder coming down, i fell and my neckbone buckled under me."
"So we conversed, and grimly, at a distance, with my long sword between, guarding in the blood, while the faint image of the lad spoke on. Now came my mother the daughter of Autolycus, dead now, through living still when i took ship..."
Odysseus sees his mother on his way through the land of the dead because she killed her self to try to visit him but he goes past her because he has not enough time.
