  • Maine was originally apart of Massachusetts. This satisfied slave powers in congress
  • 36* 30' Line
  • This line prohibited slavery from entering the northern states.
  • Senator Rufus King also argued whether or not a new states hould have slavery
  • Who was Involved
  • New York senator James Tallmadge proposed an amendment banning slavery.
  • Missouri was added as a slave state, even though it's above the 36* 30' line
  • To satisfy the south, slavery stayed below the line drawn across the Louisiana Purchase
