Storyboard Text

  • The townspeople didn't want to pick which god they preferred, because they didn't want to make them angry.
  • So the gods decided to have a competition. They would each give a gift, and the townspeople would choose which gift was the best.
  • Poseidon gave them the gift of a new flowing river. The people were very excited.
  • But when they drank the water, they spat it out. It was salt water!
  • And when they ate the olives, they were delicious! The wood from the tree could also be very helpful for making houses.
  • Athena gave the gift of an olive tree. Again, the people were very excited.
  • In Ancient Greece, almost every town had a god or goddess to watch over it and keep it safe.

  • The townspeople wanted to pick Athena to watch over them, but they didn' want to make Poseidon angry. Luckily, Poseidon wanted to pick the winner
  • And the winner was...
  • ...Athena!!!
  • The townspeople were so happy with Athena's gift that they named their town after her. Now the town is called Athens, and is the capital of Greece
