  • Good morning! Have a seat in the schoolhouse while we wait for the rest of the class.
  • Instead of journals, students used a flat, wooden board with paper to do their assignments.
  • April 17th, 1789
  • Okay class. Pull out your hornbook and begin working on your cursive.
  • I wish I didn't have to write with a pencil, but I'm only 7.
  • In the 1700's, a range of 5 year olds, to 14 year olds were all taught in the same schoolhouse.
  • Yay! I'm old enough to use ink now.
  • Ms. Williams, you're fat!
  • During this time period, teachers were allowed to physically punish their students for misbehavior.
  • At the end of the day, teachers would go home with the student whose family was allowing them to stay.
