Alexander the II had freed the slaves/serfs because if they weren't they could have revolted. After this they got their civil liberties back.
There were innocent people who were peacefully protesting and they didn't know that the Czar wasn't in his home and they were attacked by the guards. The guards thought it was ordered by the Czar. This is an example of red terror.
Nicholas the II was the Czar that led Russia into WWI and abdicated his throne when the communists demanded him to. This then led to a revolution.
