Go, Clem!

Storyboard Text

  • Food is good.
  • This is Bilbo. He is a very good Hobbit. Respectable, comfortable, content. He doesn't care for adventures. He would much rather stay in his superior Hobbit house.
  • Grand adventure awaits you, Bilbo!
  • Please don't.
  • Unfortunately for Bilbo, adventure lies in his future. The fireworks man has come to take him away, with promises of treasure and Dwarves. Bilbo has been marked for a greater purpose- burglary!
  • Haha, watch this.
  • Adventure?! How ridiculous. A Hobbit doesn't think of such things. Besides, I am quite comfortable with my own incompetence. Instead, I think I'll just stay here, making mediocre smoke rings, drooling over maps, and surrounded by endless pocket handkerchiefs.
  • Now Bilbo is conflicted. Most of him wants to stay at home like a hermit, or rather, a good little Baggins.
  • You know what? Maybe sucking at everything and allowing myself to be constrained by normal society actually isn't a smart move. I guess I'll find out, seeing as I've once again been pushed around by strange foreign forces.
  • But another part of him, a particularly Tookish part, yearns for adventure and fulfillment. Oh yes, that Fairie blood makes a Hobbit do wild things...
  • During his adventures, Bilbo did a great many things. And while at first he truly was quite useless, by the end, circumstance forced him to find courage and daring, leading him to that missing piece of himself.
  • Well, I'm not dead. That's good because Thorin is, and I would rather not follow his example. Also, check out my cool elf armor. Pretty rad, huh?
  • I mean, I also got this ring from a weird naked frog-man, but that's definitely not important whatsoever.
  • Oh man, I'm so glad to be home. Now I can eat 8 meals a day and practice peek-a-boo with my new ring. Yep. No more problems in sight. Life is good.
  • Overall, Bilbo had a good time. But more importantly, he realized that there didn't have to be a Took or a Baggins- he could be both. And while it may be strange, to those who matter the most, it is perfectly acceptable. And there is more worth in your true self, than in a "good" citizen.
