Symbolism- The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe
The barrel shows the barren-ness of the corridor. That's good because the one who got bullied can capture the bully. He just leaves him there behind a wall. The bullied guy builds a wall in front of the bully who is chained up. They met at a carnival. The next piece of symbolism is the body sized whole in the wall which acts as a place to put a body.
That square in the bottom left corner is a random piece of paper that no one has picked up and recycled. This shows that no one cares about it. That is why it is so rural. The vaults are dark and muggy. They are described as the Catacombs where the walls are made of skulls.
