Situation: When Curley's wife is standing in the doorway talking to George and Lennie for the first time. Analysis: Curley's wife is standing in the doorway flirting with them. Theme: Curley's wife is lonely because she is trying to get attention from the workers including George and Lennie.
Sitiuation: Lennie is alone in the barn petting the dead puppy. Analysis: Lennie is alone in the barn with the puppy and he is scared that George may not let him go to the rabbits because he mightn kill them to. Theme: Lennie is in the barn because he doesn't want George to see that he killed the puppy.
Situation: Lennie is waiting for George in the bushes by the Salinas River. Analysis: Salinas River is where George told Lennie to go if they ever split up. Theme: Lennie is lonely in the bushes as he waits for George to come find him.
