Storyboard Text

  • A green knight challenges anyone of the noble kings men to a game and Gawain accepts it.
  • "This ax, as heavy as he'll need, to handle as he likes, /And I will abide the first blow, bare-necked as I sit." (Lines 71-72).
  • Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
  • Gawain accepted the challenge from the Green Knight and he chops his head off, accepting the fact the Green Knight will get his chance in one year and a day.
  • "The sharp of the battle blade shattered asunder the bones/ And sank through the shining fat and slit it in two" (Lines 155-156).
  • 366 days later...
  • While the lord is out hunting the lady tries to seduce Gawain into accepting her many gifts. But Gawain declines the gifts knowing of what the lord will do.
  • "She held toward him a ring of the yellowest gold/ And, standing aloft on the band, a stone like a star/ From which flew splendid beams like the light of the sun" (Lines 198-200).
  • The Lady offers Gawain a green sash which will protect him from all mortal men and he accepts knowing it will protect him from all but uncanny men.
  • "As long as he keeps it looped around him, / No man under Heaven can hurt him, whoever may try , / For nothing on earth, however uncanny, can kill him" (Lines 233-235).
  • The Green Knight swings his ax at Gawain and slices at the neck of Gawain, but not killing him because Gawain has the green sash
  • "He raises that ax up lightly and flashes it down,/ Ans that blinding bit bites in at the knight's bare neck" (Lines 301-302).
  • The Green Knight realizes that Gawain has confessed clean and wants to befriend him.
  • "come on, let's both go back to my castle/ And finish the New Year's revels with feasting and joy, / not strife" ( Lines 392-394).
