  • As England and France gained more power, the church and monarchy were locked in a power struggle. When the church became too powerful, the King made laws that undermined the church.
  • The Church has too much power!
  • The system of royal justice is unfair to us!!
  • God wills it!!
  • The Crusades were holy wars fought between the Christians and Muslims. The main reason these wars were fought is because the Christians wanted to take back the holy land. The crusades lasted from 1096-1204 and the Christians never achieved their goal.
  • When will this horrible disease end?!
  • The Black Death was a devastating plague that spread throughout all of Europe. The plague was carried by fleas and rats. The plague lasted from 1348-1351 and killed 1/3 to half the population, it also destroyed economies and caused inflation.
  • The Hundred Years War was fought between Britain and France from 1337-1453. The war was caused by the King of England trying to regain control of France. New technologies such as the long bow and cannon were introduced to the battlefield. The French were on the verge of losing the war until Joan of Arc who convinced the French King to allow her to lead the French army to victory. Joan of Arc claimed that she was sent by God to help in the war.
  • With our new technologies we will surely win the war!

  • Castles were used in Medieval times for protection. Lords would live in these castles while the walls around it would protect the villagers inside. they had thick stone walls that were hard to penetrate, tall towers to spot incoming enemies, and sometimes a moat around the castle to make it harder to infiltrate.
  • The two weapons that made an impact on the hundred years war were the Long bow used by England and the cannon used by France. The Long bow was a six-foot bow that could fire 3 arrows at once. This bow gave England many early victories. Although the weapon that won the war was the cannon. The cannon could easily destroy walls of castles.
