During transcription DNA is unzipped so that it can be replicated into mRNA because DNA is too large to get out of the nucleus.
If you were to split my body into two and take one half of it out of the nucleus that's called mRNA and that's the end result of a process called Transcription
Take that half of me to the cytoplasm to the ribosome where it will start building a protein by putting together amino acids with the help of tRNA.
The end result of translation is a protein, which are molecules that make up your physical characteristics.
If any of these processes were changed or there was a mistake in the "blue prints" that could create mutations like if there was a mutation to the Lactase enzyme you wouldn't be able to break down the sugar in milk called lactose.
And this my friends is why some people are lactose intolerant, because there was a mutation to their lactase enzyme due to a mistake in either the transcription or translation processes.
