  • American can't stay neutral any longer! Our sailors are being impressed!
  • Phase 1 - Battles in the Great Lakes/Canada
  • Britain is blockading our coastline!
  • James Madison was the fourth president of the United States. The War of 1812 was "Madison's War".
  • Phase 2 - Francis Scott Key and the Bombardment of Fort McHenry
  • "Oh say can you see..."
  • As France and England were and American continued to stay neutral until the British started impressing American sailors into their army and supporting the Native Americans that were fighting Americans on the frontiers.
  • Andrew Jackson - War Hero
  • Andrew Jackson is declared a hero!
  • The United States decided to attack Britain in Canada and the Great Lakes. An important naval victory took place on Lake Erie.
  • Effects of the War of 1812
  • America needs to be economically independent!
  • Francis Scott Key had to watch the bombardment of Fort McHenry. Britain was not able to destroy the fort and the flag was still flying in the morning. Key wrote what would become our national anthe
  • Jackson attacked and held off the Bristish Army for two weeks in New Orleans. He finally defeated them, ending the war and becoming a hero.
  • After the war the United States realized that they needed to improve. They needed to make their own products and support themselves.
