  • Maybe I can come back to this next year?
  • Could we be going any slower? I'm going to be late for practice!

  • I've been an athlete since I was seven years old, playing basketball, and then basketball, softball, and volleyball in high school. . When I got to college, I was no longer on a sports team. There are hundreds of organizations at UCSB and I decided to go out and search for one for me.
  • Alright, I'm back. How can I be better?
  • At the UCSB Fun and Fitness Festival, numerous intramural, club, and active organizations were tabling with information. While I was roaming around alone, the Rugby team pulled me to their table and said this would be perfect for me. I was currently commuting from LA and wondered how I could make this possible?
  • Will I be a good Captain?
  • After practicing for a quarter, season started to get more intense. As the team approached season, I realized that I could not commit to practice 4 days a week and games on the weekends when I lived over an hour away from campus. Even though I was learning to really love this new sport, I had to let it go for now.
  • So now what?
  • The next year I got a job as a RA on campus, which would give me housing right here at school. No more commuting! I was able to rejoin the rugby team and started doing really well. I realized that I could be really great at this sport if I kept up at it! I've played sports for as long as I can remember and had never felt more confident in my skills as I did with rugby.
  • In my final year, I earned the position as team captain. I was excited and nervous at the same time. The UCSB Rugby program was improving year after year and I wanted to assure that we'd be in playoffs this year. After a rough season, we finally made it to the first round of playoffs and I met the goals I had set for myself and the program.
  • As I ended my time at UCSB, I wondered what I would do without a sport again? Rugby was like no sport I had ever played. It was a unique community filled with some strangely unique. I met some of my closest friends and future housemates through this team and sport. Now, I'm currently just trying to balance work and school. However, I still look for teams to join , hoping that I get the chance again.
  • Congratulations Class of 2015!
