  • 3(4x+5) = 1(4x-20)
  • Okay. Mekenna.

  • 3(4x+5) = 1(4x-20) 1 x [3(4x+5)] = 2 x [1(4x-20)] 3(4x+5) = 2(8x-40) 3(1x+5) = 2(4x-40) 3x+15 = 8x-80 3x-8x = -80-15 -5x = -95x x = 19
  • 3(4x+5) = 1(4x-20)
  • Okay. Good try. Close, but not quite. You had multiplied the equation by a number that would equal 4 and 2. Then only divided the number multiplied by x.
  • 4
  • 2
  • 3(4x+5) = 1(4x-20)
  • You were supposed to multiply the equation by 4 because 4 is the lowest common multiple. Then you had to divide all numbers above by the denominator.
  • 4
  • 2
  • 3(4x+5) = 1(4x-20) 4 x [3(4x+5)] = 4 x [1(4x-20)] 12(16x+20) = 4(16x-80) 3(4x+5) = 2(8x-40) 12x+15 = 16x-80 12x-16x = -80-15 -4x = -95 x = 23.75
