Storyboard Text

  • The Franks and Van Dans were forced to move into hiding during WWII inside a secret annex. Together they lived for about 2 years in the annex until it was raided by Nazi soldiers. A dentist named Mr. Dusell later moved into the annex.
  • Friends like Miep Gies and Beep gave the Franks insight on the war, community, and gave them needed resources.
  • "We all kept up with the news and war by listening to the radio. We would get into some pretty heated discussions about politics and things going on in the outside world. It did bring optimism to a place full of depression and hopelessness."
  • "I got a diary for my birthday and since living in the annex it has been my only friend. I don't really fit in with my family, I hate my mom, Dusell is SO high maintenance, and don't even let me get started on Mrs. Van Daan and mother... I hope when we get out of here that I, Anne Frank, can be an independent women. I feel grown up and I'm ready to be treated like one! For now I can put up with it in order to survive..."
  • "It's also really hard for me personally because I'm a growing girl. It's been hard trying to adjust to this new lifestyle. I long for the peace and prosperity of the outside world. I want out of this constant fear and I want to be free! I sometimes wish that my religion didn't define me."
  • "I have found another way to channel out my emotions at the Annex. Peter and I have become much closer and are talking about VERY personal things. We have also started developing feelings for each other! The problem is adults of the Annex don't think it's a good idea. What do they know! We are still talking almost every night, and it's by far the best part of my day!"
  • The Annex was raided by soldiers one night. Margot and I both died at a concentration camp together after being taken away. Only father survived the duration of the war and along with Miep, was able to publish my diary. It shared with people world wide the horrors my family and I faced along with thousands of other Jews. I, Anne Frank, and my family shall forever be remembered as the members of the Secret Annex.
