  • I hope my teacher will like me...
  • At the start of the year, welcome the students enthusiastically and express that you cannot wait to cultivate personal relationships with them.
  • Good Morning! I am so excited to be your third grade teacher! I look forward to getting to know each of you! Together we are going to learn a lot!
  • I hope I make friends .
  • Express your hopes and desires for the class.
  • I'd like to start by letting you know what I want to see this year. I want a positve, respectful and enthusiastic classroom.
  • WHAT!?
  • I also want students who do their best work, pay attention, and learn as much as they can.
  • I think I can do that!
  • It's your turn now! Talk to a partner and come up with some things that you think will help us have a successful year.
  • Have students collaborate and discuss the things that help them succeed.
  • I really like presentations. But it's not fun if people don't listen.
  • I like working hard and learning about cool things.
  • I like when everyone is nice to each other.
  • We think that we should listen to each other.
  • Ask students to share what they discussed and then formulate a class motto and a set of classroom rules based on their ideas.
  • What can we agree on? Let's make a motto and a set of rules that will help us succeed!
  • We want to work hard!
  • We like when everyone is respectful and kind.
  • Based on our talk, I came up with this class motto and this set of rules. I think it is so great that we are agreeing to be respectful and productive!
  • Class Motto: Our classroom will be a place of respect and kindness that promotes learning . All students are expected to behave appropriately, try their best, and help each other be successful.
  • Rules: 1. Be respectful to others and their property. 2. Listen when the teacher and other students are talking. 3. Complete all classwork to the best of your ability. 4. Raise your hand if you have a question.
  • I think that sounds great! I like the part about being encouraging!
  • Display the class motto and the set of rules and make sure the students approve what you wrote.
  • How does this class motto and set of rules sound? Can we commit to doing them?
  • Yea!
  • Sounds good!
  • Yea!
