The prison reform has impacted our society and world today in many reasons, here are a few....
Don't worry we are going to get you on the right track, you'll be a better person.
Before the prison reform people kind of just treated the mentally ill like animals and that they should be punished. However, Dorothea Dix really began to show people that the mentally ill are people too. Today, mentally ill people are given more opportunities and are treated humanely and with respect. This is a big impact from Dorothea's beliefs.
Because my crime was minor, my sentence is not as long as the bigger criminals.
Since the prison reform, prisons have had better living conditions. Now they aren't as crowded, unsanitary, and dangerous as they were before the reform.
THANK YOU DOROTHEA DIX FOR REFORMING THE PRISONS!
Prisons today are not only holding prisoners, but they are also helping them get on the right track so they will be a new person when they are released. Before the reform, prisoners' sentences were indefinite, meaning you didn't know when you would get out. But today sentences are clear and by assisting prisoners to get back on track will help them to not end up in jail once again.
Also, prisons before the reform weren't as accurate as prisons now. From the reform prisoners with minor crimes will spend less time in jail then people with severe crimes. Due to the reformation people in prison get the justice and sentence they deserve.
