A man from the tribe of Levi marries a Levite woman, who soon has a son. She hid her child for three months, but keeping him a secret eventually became to difficult.
She placed him in a basket and sent him afloat down the river Nile, in the hope that he would be found by someone else and raised as their own.
The Pharaoh's daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and saw the baby still floating on the river in his basket. She took pity on the crying child, and sent one of her attendants to find a hebrew lady to nurse and raise the little boy. As he grew up, the child was taken to the Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses.
