  • Dr. Mason Fitch Cogwell's Idea
  • Help find a way for my daughter to be educated.
  • Of course!
  • Traveling to Euorpe
  • Off to Braidwood I go!
  • Braidwood Academy
  • Their technique isn't even that good! How disgusting.
  • Cogswell's daughter has "spotted fever" which meant she couldn't learn at a regular school and with the aid of other parents, Cogswell employed Thomas Gallaudet to go find a way to teach deaf students.
  • French National Institute
  • This was more helpful than Braidwood! I will go back to the U.S now!
  • I'll go to America with you to help with your teaching!
  • So Gallaudet traveled to Braidwood Academy in Europe to study their technique on teaching deaf students.
  • Establishing a School in America
  • American Asylum for the Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons
  • After going to Braidwood Academy, they wouldn't give out their secret ways and Gallaudet wasn't impressed so he decided to go to London.
  • Epilogue
  • Sign Language
  • At London, Gallaudet went to the French National Institute where he learned from Sicard, a teacher. Later on, Laurent Clerc, a deaf person, would go to America to help Gallaudet.
  • Gallaudet and Clerc established the first school in Hartford for the deaf where Clerc saw that many students adapted French signs to fit their preferences.
  • Yay! We made the first school for deaf people!
  • Throughout history, many other schools and a university for the deaf would be built and ASL education would be a language taught to many students.
