  • What Native American Contributed to the Louisiana Purchase 
  • I helped Louis and Clark on their expedition. My official role was a shoshone interpreter. But I never received pay for the things I done.
  • The purchase added 827,000 square miles double the size of the U.S. The Louisiana Purchase is important because it gave the U.S control of the Mississippi River and port city of New Orleans both which were used by farmers to ship their crops and get paid. This happened April 30, 1803 where they agreed and signed the Louisiana Purcahse Treaty.
  • Jefferson sends Lewis and Clark to Louisiana Territory

  • Sacagawea meets Lewis and Clark. She was part of the main party from April 7, 1805 until August 14 , 1806. Her official role was that of a shoshone interpreter. However, she was not in the payroll. She fulfilled many progressed and proved to be an asset for the Corps of Discovery.
  • Lewis and Clark return and the U.S purchased the Louisiana Territory
  • In 1803, Jefferson commissioned the Corps of Discovery, and named U.S. Army Captain Meriwether Lewis its leader, who in turn selected William Clark as second in command. Lewis demonstrated remarkable skills and potential as a frontiersman.
  • It began near St. Louis, made its way westward, and passed through the continental divide to reach the Pacific coast. The Corps of Discovery comprised a selected group of U.S. Army volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend, Second Lieutenant William Clark.
  • President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the Corps of Discovery Expedition (1804-06), led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, to explore the territory acquired in the Louisiana Purchase, among other objectives. In 1801, Spain signed a secret treaty with France to return Louisiana Territory to France.
  • The U.S gained lots of control from the purchase of the Louisiana Territory
