Storyboard Text

  • Climax
  • Falling Action
  • “If it is, then it’s only fair. They killed him first. It was his right.” -Shimmy
  • “If it is, then it’s only fair. They killed him first. It was his right.”
  • Falling Action
  • Tendler returns to the house, enjoys the feast, and heads up to bed. But he stays awake until the house is asleep and nobody is awake, and then he shoots the entire family, including the infant daughter, so that no one is left to take revenge upon him.
  • Falling Action
  • Shimmy plays devil’s advocate and seems to excuse Tendler for killing the entire family, convincing Etgar of its reasonableness, and then shaming him for ever thinking that any human should feel allowed to take a life. Shimmy never would, and wishes to teach this lesson to his son.
  • Resolution
  • Tendler’s experience as a survivor of the death camp system, which was meant to allow none to survive, cracked him just enough that he has lost the humanized capability of showing mercy.
  • Etgar began to understand how and why Tendler had to kill that family and how men sent to battle in uniform would find no mercy at his hand. Every Friday Etgar packed up Tendler’s fruit and vegetables even after his father died.
