  • The story takes place at the old man's house for eight nights all around midnight. He would sneak in his house as he slept.
  • Climax
  • The narrator had conflict with the old man and his eye. The conflict between the old man and the narrator could be classified as man vs man even though in the story the narrator states he doesn't have a problem with the old man.
  • Falling Action
  • On the eighth day the old man heard the narrator and woke up. He called out "who's there?". The narrator stayed still for a whole hour.
  • Resolution
  • The narrator heard the old man's heart beat and when he couldn't bear it anymore. He suffocated the old man with the mattress. Then cut up his body and hid it under the floor.
  • After the narrator killed the man he stayed at the old man's house and stayed the night. In the morning the police showed up and he started talking to them. He sat over the place where he hid the body.
  • As the narrator was talking to the police, he started hearing what he thought was his heart beat. This slowly drove him crazy. When he couldn't take it anymore he got up and confessed and said "I killed him, why is his heart still beating?"
