S&E- Australian settlement
By callum23, Updated
assignment for S&E
A couple hundred British convicts were being sent to Australia on 11 ships to create a Penal colony.
The convicts were put to work straight away, putting up tents and clearing the land of trees and rocks.
Problems in the colony.
The work was extremely hard. The trees were thick and tough and the the tools were inadequate for the job.
Because of the dry soil it was almost impossible to grow crops. The colonists tried the local plants but decided it wasn't a suitable supply of food.
Because of the harsh environment in the first colony a ship of convicts went to find somewhere to set up a second colony.
