I'm sorry George
I don't like the newcomers. Something odd about a little guy guiding a big guy around.
In Weed, California the two main characters are Lennie and George, go to a ranch after leaving a previous ranch because Lennie accidentally grabbed a woman by her dress.
Lennie and George are friends. But Lennie, is developmentally disabled, and since he acts like a child half the time, the two friends often find themselves in trouble.
Need to go to river, just like George said.
Curley, who is the boss's son, immediately does not like Lennie who he picks on all the time. Curley's wife just causes problems since she is always wanting attention. Lennie and George make new friends with the ranch hands, especially Candy.
Slim gave Lennie a puppy and is in the barn tending it. But Curley's wife enters the barn, and they start to talk. Without realizing it, Lennie grabs her hair, because he likes soft things. Curley's wife gets nervous and tells him to stop, he panics and breaks her neck.
Lennie was given easy directions by George that if anything bad happened he should hide near the river. George goes there and meets him there.
George shoots Lennie before Curley can find him and do harm to him. The men cover it up. The reader feels the sorrow of George having to kill his best friend.
