  • After a week long trial, Brown was found guilty and received the death penalty. 
  • John Brown 
  • John Brown was born in Torrington, Connecticut in 1800. He attended many different schools in the North.  
  • Fight Slavery! We must end slavery and free the Slaves!
  • Brown was able to gain a small group of loyal supporters that became his militia. This group would assist Brown in the murder of 5 pro-slavery settlers in Franklin County in 1856. 
  • By the morning, the Armory was surrounded by US Marines. In total, 10 of the men were killed, 5 escaped, and 7, including Brown, were captured. 
  • Brown led an attack on Harpers Ferry Armory in 1859 with 21 of his militia members.
  • Brown was publicly hanged on December 2nd in Jefferson County, Virginia. He was 59 years old.
  • John Brown became a martyr for the abolitionist movement.
