Angry that he didn't bear a son, King Acrisius journeys to the Delphi to find out if he will ever have a son. He learns that instead he has a far more gruesome fate. He learns that his daughter, Danae, will bear a son who would kill him. Afraid at the thought, he trapped Danae in an underground house made of bronze.
Zeus visits Danae in her underground house. After his visit, Danae finds out that she is pregnant and tries to hide the secret from her father. When King Acrisius sees that she is pregnant he places Danae and her son, Perseus, in a chest and cast them into the water.
A fisherman names Dictys finds Danae and Perseus. Dictys and his wife take them in and Danae and Perseus lived with them for many years. The ruler of the island, Polydectes, who is Dicty's brother fell in love with Danae. Polydectes wanted Danae for himself so he wanted Perseus out of the picture.
