  • Revolution of 1911
  • Well first, let's create a Nationalist rival government before we talk about battle.
  • Sun Yet-sen! How are we going to defeat the warlords up north?

  • Something about western ideas of Communism and Nationalism?
  • Nationalist vs. Communist, 1927
  • Everyone shhh! Kill everyone who is for Mao Zedong and his Communism!
  • In the revolution, China creates a Republic under Sun Yet-sen, who was a political idealist. Yuan Shukai was named president, but he soon tries to become emperor. After he died, the country becomes split into two camps ruled by warlords.
  • Long March, 1934
  • We have to escape the Nationalists control. Follow me!
  • On May 4th, a bunch of students led a revolt fueled by Nationalist and Communist ideas of re-unifying China
  • Japanese Invasion
  • After the Communists and Nationists capture Beijing, they rid the rule of the warlords. Soon after, Chiang Kai Shek, the Nationalist leader, started a purge on thousands of Communists ruled by Mao Zedong.
  • After the Nationalists defeated the Communists in battle, Mao Zedong led his followers outside of the Nationalists control.
  • Everyone follow Mao Zedong!
  • When the Japanese invaded, the Chinese Civil War was halted because both sides agreed it was better to fight the Japanese together. The Nationalist Army took on the bulk of the resistance and was very weakened. The Communist army grew during this time.
