  • This is ridiculous I will not let you let my house because of debt

  • Sorry to tell you this sir, but since you have not been pay your taxes we have to take your house
  • We are fed up with this we want our houses and our farms back you guys are taking our rights away.

  • No you can not just come in and do this because you are going agaist the law.
  • Yeah!
  • The soldiers were paid with paper certificates for there service in promise of money later in life. But most of the soldier sold the certificates to get money. I don't realy agree with this because if most people are at a hard time they would want money right away.
  • September 25th - 28th
  • Come on guys we can do this we can get our things back
  • The Massachusetts Legislature would taxes the farmers. But if the farmers did not pay there debts they would get there house and land taken away and they would have to live some where else.

  • On August 29th, an armed group of farmers closed the Hampshire County Court of Common Pleas in Northampton, bringing all foreclosures to a halt. The Farmers believed that when the government started taxing the farmers and taking their house and farms away it was taking their rights away.

  • From September 25th to 28th, Shays' own band of 600 farmers, most wearing their Continental Army uniforms, occupied the Springfield courthouse and prevented the Supreme Judicial Court from sitting there.In Boston at the time heard the news, the governor ordered General Benjamin Lincoln to muster 4,400 troops to protect the courts.
  • Once they realized that they were facing an organized militia, Shays and his men settled on a new plan: they would mount a surprise attack and overrun the new federal arsenal at Springfield. Shays needed a new plan because the 4,400 troops were protecting the courts. And after the plan was in action 4 men were killed by the guard guarding the arsenal.
