Storyboard Text

  • The Missouri Compromise is an act to authorize the people of the Missouri territory to form a constitution and state government, and for the admission of such state into the Union on an equal footing with the original states, and to prohibit slavery in certain territories.
  • Basically it was a compromise that tried to fix the problem of keeping the slave and free states even. Missouri wanted to be a slave state but they needed another land mass to even it out.
  • So.. Like.. This compromise.. What did it really say?
  • If you actually read the documents provided by Mr. Carlson, you would understand that the Missouri Compromise said that slaves could be in Missouri but not in the Louisiana territory. It also said that any runaway slave must be returned to his or her owner.
  • So did this actually resolve anything..?
  • Not really.. they needed more slaves in the South because farmers were expanding. The importance of slaves actually increased causing there to be some corruption. After a while, they actually started to regulate the slave trade only in America. In other words they stopped trade from Africa.
  • I bet that would make them fight..
  • North..
  • SOUTH!!!
  • Of course it did.. but the North really was laid back when it came to this kind of matter. They weren't as passionate as the South. Think of it this way.. the South was the mouth. This caused a great division between pro and anti slave people.
  • So.. then what? What did the North say??
  • Basically that slavery causes more corruption, rape, crime and violence. Worse than the angry mob to the left of me..
  • Crap... The Northerners were industrious and manufactured goods and the South just farmed and used slaves.. I think. Yada Yada. I'm tired.. You should read books more.
  • Hold on.. So like you forgot to talk about the economy.
